COURSE OVERVIEW

Principle 11 of the revised Code of Corporate Governance (issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore) stipulates that companies should take an integrated, enterprise-wide perspective of their risk exposure, necessitating companies to establish and implement an ERM framework to enable the Board to effectively manage risks and regularly assess the adequacy and effectiveness of the company’s risk management and internal control systems. In addition to its increased accountability, the Board will require assurance from the CEO and CFO to comment on the effectiveness of the company’s risk management and internal control systems in the company’s annual report. Under this directive, it is mandatory for all publicly listed companies to ensure compliance.

Moreover, the tremendous impact of global events stemming from the global financial crisis has stressed the exigency for companies to escalate the focus on risk governance and to establish a rigorous risk management framework and internal controls to effectively identify, assess, manage and mitigate risk.
